At least 51 people die from accidents and drowning in Honduras during Holy Week
At least 51 people have died in Honduras from traffic accidents and drowning so far this Holy Week, official and civil protection sources reported this Saturday. The head of Operations of the National Directorate of Roads and Transport (DNVT), Daniel Molina, told journalists that, from last Saturday until today, 35 fatalities have been registered in various traffic accidents. Most accidents occurred in rural areas and mainly involved motorcycles, Molina noted, warning that today is a "critical day" due to the high flow of people still traveling on the roads, hence intensified operations at strategic points to prevent people from driving under the influence of alcohol. Meanwhile, a report from the National Commission for Prevention in Mass Movements (Conapremm) details that 16 people, including several minors, died from drowning in different regions of the country, while civil protection authorities highlighted that at least a hundred people were rescued alive at spas and beaches. The Conapremm document also specifies that 42 people were injured in traffic accidents and 1,548 pre-hospital attentions were provided.
