SNTP Denounces Temporary Closure of Venezuela News Portal and Dismissal of Over 100 Workers

The National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) denounced this Monday the temporary closure of Venezuela News operations and stated that more than 100 employees were notified of their dismissal on May 18. Through a publication on X, the union reported that workers were summoned during the day to inform them of the measure and ask them to leave their jobs. According to the SNTP, the staff salaries were around $400 per month, depending on the functions performed. The union stressed that the reasons behind the closure must be explained "with transparency," especially in light of preliminary versions pointing to possible financing problems. It also warned that no worker should be left unprotected or bear the consequences of political, financial, or judicial decisions beyond their control.
