Interest Rates and Fiscal Deficit

When I debuted as a newspaper columnist in 1998, the first column I wrote had the same title as today's, and in it, I criticized, as I have many times, the increase in the interest rate of the Bank of the Republic. After 28 years, the issue remains relevant, especially after the last increase in the BR's rate and the declarations of the president and the minister blaming the Bank's Board for the increase in the cost of public debt.

Interest Rates and Fiscal Deficit

TL;DR

  • The issue of rising interest rates remains relevant after 28 years.
  • Recent declarations by the president and minister blame the Bank's Board for the increased cost of public debt following a rate hike.
