Construction licenses in Colombia grew 16.5% annually in January 2026 driven by housing

In January 2026, Colombia's approved building area increased by 16.5% year-on-year to 1,947,744 square meters.
Housing construction drove this growth with an 18.2% increase, alongside a 10.4% rise in non-residential areas.
Over a twelve-month period (Feb 2025 - Jan 2026), licensed construction area grew by 7.2% to 21,251,123 square meters.
Antioquia was the main contributor to the annual growth, with significant increases also seen in Magdalena, Quindío, and Risaralda.
Valle del Cauca and Atlántico experienced substantial year-on-year decreases in approved construction area.
Non-subsidized housing construction increased by 47.2%, while subsidized housing construction decreased by 19.6%.
Apartments accounted for 75.8% of the approved housing area, with mid-to-low, mid, and low socioeconomic strata concentrating the majority of licensed housing.
