A serious traffic accident occurred on the night of Wednesday, April 1st, on the Bogotá-La Vega road, near the sector known as Curva de Shilim. A bus carrying 42 passengers overturned sideways after leaving the road, under circumstances that are still under investigation. According to the Volunteer Firefighters of La Vega, the vehicle was traveling to Sincelejo, in the department of Sucre. So far, authorities have not confirmed if the bus belonged to a tourism company. Following the accident, emergency services began evacuation efforts to rescue the vehicle's occupants. Preliminary reports indicate at least two people were trapped within the bus structure and four others were injured. The injured were evaluated at the scene and subsequently transported to hospitals in nearby municipalities for medical attention. The Cundinamarca Emergency and Urgent Care Regulatory Center (CRUE) coordinated the dispatch of ambulances, while the Police and highway concession personnel assisted in managing the emergency. Initial accounts from the Fire Department suggest the bus may have first collided with a private vehicle before overturning on the side of the road. Among the hypotheses being examined by authorities, a possible mechanical failure is gaining traction. However, this version has not yet been officially confirmed, and a definitive statement is expected after the relevant investigations. The governor of Cundinamarca, Jorge Emilio Rey, commented on the incident via his X account. He indicated that the initial report from the Directorate of Traffic and Transportation (DITRA) points to a brake system failure as the preliminary cause of the crash. The governor stated that all 42 passengers were taken to the La Vega hospital for evaluation after the emergency, and he highlighted the swift response of the rescue teams. "From the first moment, we activated our emergency system. Firefighters from La Vega and San Francisco, ambulances from the area, Police, and concession personnel are present at the scene, attending to the situation," he noted. Finally, the governor emphasized the importance of road safety. "Once again, a brake system failure has had consequences on the road," he affirmed, recommending that drivers conduct technical-mechanical inspections before embarking on road trips. Authorities continue to be at the scene, carrying out response and investigation efforts to clarify the exact causes of the accident.
