The Holocene left it, more than 10,000 years ago, embraced by the river. Through it, prosperity was a constant flow until the same current left it with sediment and isolation, suspending it in time and taking progress away towards Magangué. The river that turned it into the largest fluvial island in Latin America was the goldsmith that intertwined prosperity, religious fervor, and masonry to make it the first to proclaim absolute independence under the challenging motto “to be free or die”.
