United States Renews OFAC License to Monómeros, Opens Door to Possible Purchase by Ecopetrol
A document from the United States Department of the Treasury indicates that the OFAC license for the fertilizer company Monómeros Colombo Venezolanos will be extended for two years, allowing it to resume operations with international banking. This decision aims to restore the company's operational capacity in international markets and improve its legal environment for investors and suppliers. The Colombian government has expressed interest in acquiring the company, with entities like Ecopetrol or Indumil being technically viable buyers. Currently, Monómeros has around 600 direct workers and a similar number of indirect employees, with a debt of approximately 500 billion pesos. The license renewal facilitates access to global finance, enhances financing capabilities, and supports potential alliances or investment processes.
