A Zombie Society

Organ and tissue donation is a gesture of generosity that should always be applauded. Saying goodbye to this world knowing that part of the body that has sustained us throughout life will be useful to another being must be comforting. But what would we think if we were told that part of what we are going to donate, particularly fat, will be used in aesthetic surgeries to round off buttocks or fill breasts?

A Zombie Society

TL;DR

  • A new cosmetic trend uses fat from deceased donors for aesthetic injections, known as 'zombie filler' or 'cadaver cosmetic'.
  • The fat is collected from tissue banks and injected to enhance areas like buttocks and breasts.
  • This trend reflects a societal fear of aging and death, and a rejection of natural bodily processes.
  • The demand for such procedures has increased partly due to the cosmetic side effects of weight-loss drugs like semaglutide, which can cause loose skin and fat loss.
  • The article suggests a need for clearer consent forms regarding the use of donated tissues and a deeper societal discussion about the fear of death.
