Strange Forms of Love

The roads in this country make any return home an ordeal. No matter if you had a memorable weekend by the river with good friends, the roads will remind you that the magic is over and life continues as you knew it. Furthermore, one of the passengers was sick and we had to stop for him to vomit and then be attentive looking for pharmacies by the side of the road to buy him medication. Being a good daughter of my mother, before boarding, I had warned him to bring a bag. Everyone laughed, although I was serious.

Strange Forms of Love

TL;DR

  • The author recalls childhood road trips where their mother mandated vomit bags, a practice now understood as a protective measure against guerrilla threats.
  • A recent trip involved caring for a sick friend, requiring frequent stops and medication, which also highlights a form of maternal care.
  • The author speculates on why children today seem less prone to car sickness, considering technological advancements and increased screen time.
  • The core theme is the dual nature of love, where seemingly cold or strict actions can be expressions of deep care and protection.
