The crude confession of the mother-in-law of Carolina Flores, former Mexican beauty queen: 'You were mine, she stole you'

Carolina Flores Gómez, 27, was a renowned former Mexican beauty queen who gained notoriety after winning the Miss Teen Universe Baja California 2017 pageant. Her triumph also allowed her to create a brand through her social media where she shared her lifestyle. However, shortly after, she began another stage of her family life in an exclusive apartment located in the Polanco III neighborhood, in the Miguel Hidalgo mayor's office. She also had a son, currently 8 months old, with her husband Alejandro Sánchez Herrera. What happened to Carolina Flores? On April 15, Carolina was in her apartment in the company of her mother-in-law, identified as Érika María Herrera, who, according to reports, had traveled for several days to visit the family. At the time of Carolina's death, both were in the living room, while Sánchez remained in a room with the baby. A video shared by journalist Carlos Jiménez revealed the moments when the women were conversing in the living room, and later Carolina was heading towards what would be another room. However, behind her went Érika Herrera, who followed her while hiding her hands in her pockets. When the two entered the room, several gunshots and a scream were heard. It was at that moment that Alejandro came out after hearing the shots - believed to be at least 12: six in the skull and six in the chest. The confession of Érika María Herrera When Alejandro came out of the other room, he asked, "What was that?" Upon seeing the scene, he told his mother, "What did you do, crazy?!" She replied without flinching, "Nothing, she made me angry." To this, he retorted, "Don't you see she's my family?" but she answered, "Your family is mine, you were mine, and she... she stole you." The complaint filed with the Mexican authorities was made the following day, and an investigation under the feminicide protocol was initiated. It was corroborated that Alejandro was the one who alerted the authorities, pointing to his mother as the alleged perpetrator, who had already escaped. However, the Attorney General's Office (FGJ) requested and obtained an arrest warrant from a control judge against the mother-in-law, who, according to the newspaper La Jornada, allegedly used a 9-millimeter weapon. The husband of Carolina is also under suspicion, as he waited a full day to file the complaint, which would have allowed his mother to escape. Authorities continue the investigation to clarify the causes of this death, as well as to find the perpetrator, whose main suspect is Érika María Herrera, Carolina Flores' mother-in-law.
