The Winners of the Winners at the 2026 Oscars

The 96th edition of the Academy Awards took place last Sunday, and as always, it is worth observing its results and seeing if we can draw any conclusions about the status of the industry based on them. In general terms, it was a relatively entertaining ceremony. Conan O’Brien has once again proven to be the best host the ceremony has had in a long time, with a mix of old-school and new humor that allows his jokes to elicit laughter. At the same time, when he tells a joke that perhaps doesn’t get much of a laugh, O’Brien uses his great comedic instincts to continue with the ceremony without letting the lack of reception of his humor take momentum away from the event. The opening montage, in which Conan, made up as Gladys the villain from the horror film “Weapons,” is chased by a group of killer children through the various nominated films, is exactly the balance between old and new that such a ceremony needs.
