The Sphinx Was a Gorgon
In the middle of life's journey, Perseus found himself lost in Dante's dark wood. He sought the beautiful mythological creature promised by the oracle: the Sphinx, a permanent center of gravity where he could rest his exhausted bones as the son of Zeus and Franco Batiato. A home to end his days as a hero forged in dark bronze and sharp metal. Let's imagine him as Cellini depicted him, as he is still remembered in Florence. Glorious in his demigod status and at the same time exhausted after so much killing, so much suffering, so much anguish in the dark corners of his tormented soul. Seeing Perseus is like listening to Bonnie Tyler, but only he knows that every hero really desires nothing more than to hang up his winged helmet, lie on fine white sheets, and close his eyes cradled in the soft hands of the Sphinx he desperately seeks.
