80% of Venezuela's cattle herd is in the hands of small and medium producers

The president of the National Confederation of Farmers and Ranchers of Venezuela (Confagan), José Agustín Campos, denounced that in the first quarter of this year, "profound attacks against rural producers" have been registered. He also commented that criminal groups "have even burned the machinery sheds of producers there, in Guárico state." He considered that in this moment that Venezuela is living, oil must be the lever that supports agriculture, livestock, and other industries. He requested that "10% of today's oil revenue be invested in agriculture" and, of course, for Venezuela to become a major exporter of food. José Agustín Campos highlighted that the resources that enter the country from oil must remain "to activate key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and livestock." He said that "80% of the Venezuelan cattle herd is in the hands of 78% of the producers," that is, small and medium producers. "It is a popular livestock industry. Now, these small and medium producers have no access to investment funds, nor do they have access to the Single Productive Portfolio," which "must be reviewed," he pointed out on Unión Radio. On another topic, he stated that meat consumption per person per year in Venezuela is between 13 and 15 kilograms, so he indicated that "it must be increased."
