El pulmón de la ciudad
Ante la reciente publicación sobre las medidas a adoptar en el cerro de la Popa por la erosión y los asentamientos humanos, conviene mirar con mayor transversalidad la situación de este, el pulmón verde de nuestra ciudad.

TL;DR
- The Cerro de la Popa faces severe erosion and human settlement pressures.
- Accelerated tree loss exacerbates global warming effects and degrades the city's climate.
- A landslide in January 2025 near Paseo Bolívar underscored the inherent risks.
- Environmental recovery is proposed through mass planting of native trees and herbaceous species.
- Ideas include integrating local gangs as forest rangers and establishing community nurseries.
- Transforming the Cerro into a Botanical Garden with historical and archaeological routes is suggested.
- A project for a Solid Waste Utilization Center and an administrative area is mentioned.
- Previous administration's Ecoparque de La Popa initiative lacks evidence of progress.
- Current government's efforts include paving the main road in 2024 and recovering an abandoned road.
- Road improvements will benefit communities like Torices, Santa Rita, Canapote, Daniel Lemaitre, and Loma Fresca.
- Responsible urban planning aims to integrate the Cerro without endangering the population or degrading its environmental value.
